Professional Philosophy
I believe each individual has a unique combination of strengths; these strengths are to be identified and used to promote healing, health, and learning. I believe that everyone does the best they can with what they have, and if they are ready, they can also do better and feel better. A supportive, collaborative therapeutic relationship promotes healing and learning; it is also crucial to use research-based therapeutic strategies. Life is a gift; it takes practice to be mindful of it, to participate fully in it, and to build it to be what you want it to be.
My previous professional experiences include work in in-patient psychiatric units, group homes, client’s homes and schools, and community mental health centers. I have treated individuals with a wide variety of diagnoses, ranging from depression, post-traumatic stress, general and specific anxiety, bipolar disorders, mood dysregulation issues, borderline personality disorder, and schizophrenia, among others. I am on our state certified DBT team and am nationally certified by the Linehan Board of Certification™. I am also trained in EMDR to treat trauma and anxiety-related symptoms.
